Alien Prince

This is something Ive been working on a for awhile. Its a character concept from I story I’m working on. It went through a lot of changes, reflecting the feedback Ive been getting from my classmates.

here is the original drawing I did. For reference I used a photo of a female face thats why it turned out rather feminine, I tried to correct that in the digital painting…

I scanned the drawing into Photoshop and painted the basic values, This whole painting will be in grayscale.

At first I wanted him to have a crown, since he is a prince and all, but later I dismissed the idea as I thought there will be too many things going on around the head because I will put face markings later on…

Here I got really frustrated with the hair so I tried to think of a design that will cover most of it, and it turned out to look too weird so I dismissed that too and decided to try and spend a lot of time on the hair instead.

The background was another big problem, originally I wanted a spaceship crashed behind him, but I settled with a bamboo forest instead. Here as my lovely classmates pointed out that the perspective is all wrong. I will later correct that.

On the hair I spend a lot of time to try and make it as realist as I can. I created a really dark one and then a really white on and settled in the middle ground.

Final Hair

Now back to the background correction, light source is coming from the left, and the Prince’s iris are naturally white, not because there is another light source lighting his face
